John Ruskin wrote, "The greatest thing a human soul ever does in this world is to see something, and tell what it saw in a plain way. Hundreds of people can talk for one who can think, but thousands can think for one who can see. To see clearly is poetry, prophecy and religion - all in one."
I live in Edinburgh, sing in a church choir, am studying for a PhD in history, promote environmental action in churches, and spend my holidays in the Lake District and the Angus Glens. I'm not so much self-taught as just well-practised in attempting to depict the beauty I see in the world, in natural forms, human history, philsophy, literature, music, cityscape. The result is art, but not for art's sake.
If my art inspires you see clearly and tell plainly the awesome value of nature and humanity, then I've helped to make you an instrument of hope in the world, which Ruskin is probably right is the greatest thing I could do.
